
1st Asian Jumps Championships Concludes Successfully in Chongqing, China
The inaugural edition of the 1st Asian Jumps Championships concluded successfully on 18 and 19 May 2026 in Chongqing, China marking a historic milestone for athletics in Asia.
Organized under the leadership of Asian Athletics in cooperation with the Chinese Athletics Association, the championships was hailed as a grand success with the participation of 16 Member Federations and more than 90 athletes and 60 officials from across the continent.
Following the successful introduction of the Asian Throws Championships in recent years, Asian Athletics identified the need to further strengthen and develop the jumping events in the region. Chongqing, China was considered the perfect venue to host the inaugural edition given China’s outstanding reputation for professionalism, excellence and expertise in organizing world class athletics events.
The championships attracted some of Asia’s leading athletes including former Olympic and World Champion high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim who made a remarkable return to competition after more than a year away from the sport. Barshim made his comeback in style by winning the gold medal much to the delight of athletics fans and participants.
The two-day championships featured exciting and high-quality competition across the jumping disciplines and demonstrated the growing standard and depth of talent in Asia.
In his remarks, Gen. Dahlan Al Hamad, President of Asian Athletics, stated:
“This event marks a new and important step towards further boosting the jumping events in Asia. The successful organization of this inaugural championships reflects the strong commitment of Asian Athletics towards creating more opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level. I congratulate the Chinese Athletics Association and the Local Organizing Committee for delivering an outstanding event with exceptional professionalism and hospitality. I am confident that this championships will continue to grow in the coming years and become one of the key competitions in the Asian athletics calendar.”
