
Gumi- The 26th Asian Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in South Korea’s Gumi from 27 May to 31 May 2025, promises to be a significant event for the continent's track and field stars. With more than 750 athletes from nearly 40 nations competing at Gumi Citizens Stadium, this edition will be the largest in the history of the championships, bringing together top competitors in pursuit of regional glory.
While this is an Asian competition, its reputation has drawn some of the world's best athletes, including Olympic and world championship medalists. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem (javelin), South Korea's Woo Sang-hyeok (high jump), Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barsham (high jump) and the Philippines' EJ Obiena (pole vault) are among the standout names.
Other stars to look out for include Uzbekistan’s Safina Sadullayeva (high jump) as well as China’s Bin Feng (discus) and Jiayuan Song (shot put). Their participation highlights the importance of this event which provides Asia’s elite athletes the opportunity to perform in front of their home fans and reinforce their presence on the global stage.
