
106th Meeting of the Council of Asian Athletics Held in Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong, China — The 106th Meeting of the Council of Asian Athletics was successfully held on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The meeting was officially opened by Dr. David Mong Tak Yeung, President of the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA).
During the meeting, the Council approved and confirmed the hosting rights for several major upcoming Asian Athletics championships, alongside receiving updates on ongoing continental initiatives.
Championships Awarded:
- 3rd Asian Relays Championships 2027: Awarded to Chandigarh, India.
- 13th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2028: Awarded to Odisha, India.
- 23rd Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2028: Awarded to Taif, Saudi Arabia.
The Council also officially approved the appointment of Olga Rypakova as the Chairwoman of the Athletes Commission of Asian Athletics.
Future Competition Reports:
The Council received and reviewed progress reports for the following championships:
- 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships: Scheduled from 28 to 31 May 2026 in Hong Kong.
- 2nd Asian Relays Championships: Successfully held on 20 and 21 May 2026 in Shaoxing, China.
- 1st Asian U23 Athletics Championships: Scheduled to be held from 9 to 12 July 2026 in Ordos, China.
The Council noted with satisfaction that all preparations for the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong have been completed successfully. The facilities, technical preparations, and overall arrangements made by HKAAA and the Local Organizing Committee were praised as excellent, with the championships fully ready to begin today.
Gen. Dahlan Al Hamad expressed his appreciation to HKAAA and the Local Organizing Committee for their outstanding efforts and commitment. He conveyed his confidence that the event would be conducted successfully and wished all participating athletes the very best in the competition.
Beach Athletics Initiative:
The Council was informed about the progress of the Beach Athletics Working Group, established following the successful conduct of beach athletics activities in Sanya. The working group is continuing its research and studies to further develop the discipline while ensuring maximum safety and minimizing injuries to athletes competing on sand surfaces.
Asian Athletics reaffirmed that the long-term objective of this initiative is the establishment of the Asian Beach Athletics Championships in the future.
