Xie Zhenye set new Asian Record in 200m with a timing of 19.88s

London, 21 July 2019: Asian athletes were impressive in the IAAF London Diamond League which took place in London Stadium . Xie Zhenye of China not only became first Chinese athlete to run 200m under 20 seconds but also set new Asian Record of 19.88s while running in outer lane 9.

Followed by his feat, Asian champion Xie Wenjun claimed first place in close finish race of 110m hurdles with a timing of 13.28s. At the same time Syrian high jumper and Asian champion Majd Eddin Ghazal won his first ever victory in the Diamond League high jump event, clearing 2.30m . Asian record holder Mutaz Barshim of Qatar who is competing after long layoff secured second place in 2.27m. Earlier Team Japan took second place in the men’s 4x100m relay with a season best time of 37.78s while Chinese women 4x100m Relay team won third place in 42.71s .

Yesterday, Japan’s Yuki Koike registered sub 10 seconds performance in the men’s 100m with a personal best time of 9.98s . His teammate Kiryu clocked 10.13s
