Tejinder Pal Singh Toor of India set new Asian Games record in the men’s shot put

Jakarta, Aug 26: Athletics events of 18th Asian Games 2018 started on 25th August with men’s marathon final which was won by Japanese Inoue Hiroto who edged out ELABBASSI Elhassan of Bahrain at the finish line to win, clocking identical 2:18:22. Duo Bujie of China won first ever medal for China in the marathon event of Asian Games, clocking 2:18:48.

Later in the evening session, Asian champion Luo Na of China won women’s hammer throw final with a throw of 71.42m to become Asian Games champion. Her teammate Wang Zheng managed 70.86m for silver while Katsuyama Hitomi of Japan took bronze medal with a throw of 62.95m.

Darya Maslova won first ever Gold medal for Kyrgyzstan in the women 10000m run with a timing of 32:07:23s. Eunice Chumba of Bahrain took silver medal in 32:11.12 while China’s Zhang Deshun set new personal best to win bronze medal in 32:12.78s.

Tajinder pal Singh Toor of India’s opening throw in the men’s shot put was enough for him to win Gold medal but he had different plan and in the 5th attempt he heaved shot put to 20.75m, new Asian Games record and Indian record. India has dominated men’s shot put event in the Asian Games history and Toor made sure that domination continue. Liu Yang of China could managed 19.52m to win silver medal while Kazakhstan’s Ivanov Ivan could not match Toor’s giant throw and had to settle on the bronze medal position with a throw of 19.40m.

In the women’s 400m heats, World championship medallist Salwa Naser of Bahrain set new Games record of 50.86s to qualify for Final.  Muhammad Anas Yahiya of India led men’s 400m semi final performance with a timing of 45.30s. World championship medallist Abdalelah Haroun of Qatar also qualified for final with 45.83s.

In the 100m of men and women’s, all top sprinters of Asia safely made it to the semi final including Asian leader Su Bingtian and Wei Yongli of China.
