London, 9 Aug: Twice Asian Champion Li Lingwei of China finally won her maiden World Championship medal in the form of silver medal with a new personal best throw of 66.25m in the women javelin throw final of the IAAF World Championship in London.

Li said “I am happy because I made it into the final and the Chinese team won two medals. It has not been easy for me in the past half year because I had several injuries during training. I am quite surprised I improved my performance and won the silver medal.”

Her teammate Lyu Huihui who won set new Asian record during qualification could managed to win bronze medal with best throw of 65.26m. Lyu said “This final is very satisfactory for the Chinese team, three of us in the final with two medals. That proves the growing development for Chinese javelin throw.  “I won silver in 2015 and now I get the bronze medal. This is a fine result. I am an old athlete with a lot of experience. I had a stable performance with reasonable results. My run-up was quite short. Every athlete has specific characteristics. Also I trust in my coach because I have improved a lot in recent years.”
