Bangkok, 16 July 2019: Asian Athletics Association confirmed appointment of A Shuggumarran (Singapore) as General Secretary of AAA. This decision was approved by AAA Council in its 93rd Council meeting held in Bangkok on 14th July 2019.
A Shuggumarran, popularly known as Shuggu is well known in the Asian Athletics family for his work in the AAA office spanning over 25 years.
Shuggu, now 47, first joined AAA in 1994 after his completion of National Service in Singapore. He perfected his administrative skills under the guidance of Mr. Marurice Nicholas, former secretary of AAA. Long before joining AAA, Shuggu was attracted to the sport of Athletics in his youth days and competed in Singapore in the various middle distance events. He then later graduated from Northumbria University Newcastle in the field of Marketing.
Shuggu has garnered vast experience of management and development of athletics in Asia which is a big asset for Asian Athletics.
AAA President said: “ Shuggu has been an integral part of AAA family for many years and I have seen his passion and professionalism which he brings to his job and I am confident with same enthusiasm he will deliver our agenda of development of athletics in Asia. I am glad he agreed to accept our offer.”
Shuggu said: “I am humbled by the trust shown by the AAA Council in me to advance agenda of Asian Athletics. I will do everything in my capacity to live up to the AAA President and Council member’s trust in my athletics administrative abilities. Athletics is truly sports for life for me and it is an honour to serve Asian Athletics family.”
He further said, “Today the athletics scene in the World has transformed dramatically, and Asian Athletics need to be revamped to provide support to member federations in their quest to produce World class athletes. With this in mind, newly established office in Thailand will extend all help and support to member federations”.
Shuggu will start his role as General Secretary from the newly inaugurated office of Asian Athletics Association based in Thammasat University Sports Complex, Bangkok, Thailand.
