Lalu Muhammad Zohri of Indonesia became first Asian athlete to win 100m at IAAF World Junior Championship

Tampere, 12 July 2018: Lalu Muhammad Zohri of Indonesia who recently won Asian Junior champion title in Gifu, went on winning Global 100m title in the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championship at Tampere on July 11. Lalu, running in lane 8, left everyone in awe of his dip finish to win Gold medal in 10.18s, new Indonesian junior record and first ever Asian and Indonesian Gold medal in men’s 100m at the IAAF World Juniors .

Lalu, 18 who hails from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) from a very humble family background now set eye on the Asian Games medal at Jakarta next month. Lalu said “I am very proud, this is a great experience and very good for my career”. He also thank PASI ( Indonesian Athletics Association ) for all the support given to him. Mr. Tigor Tanjung, Secretary general of PASI said that Lalu’s success is the result of his discipline in training.  We knew he is talented and he will achieve big success. We will keep supporting him to become World class sprinter, said Mr. Tigor.

Asian athletes won 3 Gold medals and 2 silver medals on Day 2 of the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championship at Tampere.

Japan athletes won two gold medals in the space of 20 minutes. Yuki Hashioka jumped to 8.03m to win gold medal in the men’s long jump while Nozomi Tanaka, Asian Junior champion led from start to finish to win Gold medal in women’s 3000m run final with a personal best performance of 8:54.01s. Nozomi beat Ethiopian duo Meselu Berhe and Tsigie Lebreselma.
