Japan secured top position in the medal tally of the 18th Asian Junior Athletics Championship in Gifu

Gifu, 11 June: Host Japan won 14 Gold medals to surpass China to secure top position in the medal tally of the 18th Asian Junior Athletics Championship which concluded yesterday (Jun 10) at the Nagaragawa Stadium, Gifu, Japan. Japan won overall 42 medals ( 14-15-13) while China earned 23 medals ( 11-8-4). India finished on the third place with 17 medals ( 5-2-10). Total of 15 countries won at least one medal.

Total of six new championship records were set during the championship and two of them came from the last day of the championship.  Japan’s Nozomi Tanaka set new championship record in the women’s 3000m run with a performance of 9:04.36s. Japan’s women 4x400m relay team also set new championship record on their way to gold medal with a performance of 3:38.20s.
