Kazakhstan emerged top in the 8th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship Tehran 2018

Tehran, 4 Feb 2018- Kazakhstan emerged on top of the medal tally of the 8th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship which concluded yesterday in Tehran. Kazakhstan athletes won 7 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals  and 1 Bronze Medal while host Iran finished on the second place with 5 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals and 10 Bronze Medals.  Qatar finished on the third place with 4 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze Medals finished the third. As many of 13 countries won at least a medal.

Championship ended with a World leading mark in the men’s long jump where Chinese rising star and current Asian Junior record holder Shi Yuhao jumped to 8.16m to win men’ long jump final. It was Shi’s maiden title in the Asian Indoor Athletics. 

Kuwait’s Alsubaie Khaled won men’s triple jump final with a jump of 16.26m. India’s Kamalraj fell short of winning gold medal and had to settle on the silver place with a jump of 16.23m. Seddigh Vahid of Iran took bronze medal in 15.96m. Shortly after Alsuaie’s win, another Kuwait athlete Almandeel Abdulaziz won men’s 60m hurdles final with a performance of 7.71m beating Chinese Zeng Jianhang to second place. Zeng clocked 7.74s for silver medal. Japanese Omuro Hidaki took bronze medal in 7.81s.

In the dramatic 1500m final, four athletes collided at the finish line. Amir Moradi of Iran surged ahead from inside lane to overtake Qatar’s Yasir Saleem to take gold medal in 3:53.78s. Yasir almost crawled to the finish line to secure silver medal in 3:53.92s .Fahimi Ali of Iran took bronze medal in 3:54.00.
