Tehran, 2 Feb 2018: 8th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Tehran got underway with a World leading high jump performance by Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar who delivered his 5th consecutive Asian Indoor title at the same place where he had won his first title in 2010. Mutaz also set new championship record of 2.38m and World leading mark in his season opener.
In the men’s 60m, Hassan Taftian of Iran did not disappoint home crowd. Hassan, regaining Asian and Asian Indoor Games champion set new Asian Indoor championship record of 6.51sec in 60m.
Keihani of Iran won 3000m final with a performance of 8:37.68s. In the women high jump, Nadiya Dusanova of Uzbekistan won Gold medal clearing height of1.87m. Chun Yu Wang of China secured Gold medal in the women 800m with a performance of 2:09.30. Tatyana neroznak of Kazakhstan won women’s 3000m final with a timing of 9:33.65s. Irina Ektova also from Kazakhstan won Gold medal in the women Triple jump final with a jump of 13.79m.
