Japan won two gold medals on the opening day of the 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2016.
Kori Nanaka (郡 菜々佳) won women shot put final with a new personal best throw of 15.89m. Chinese Dong Yu and Liu Ziyue took silver and bronze with a best throw of 14.23m and 14.22m.
In the men’s 5000m final, Takato Suzuki (鈴木 塁人) lead race from start to finish to win his first ever Asian title. Aizawa Akira also from Japan won silver medal with a performance of 14:32.08s. India’s Murlikumar Tulsybhai Gavit took bronze medal in 14:49.41s.
Nguyen Thi Truc Mai of host Vietnam brought first Gold medal in the Women long jump with a jump of 6.34m. She was given tough fight by Thailand’s Parinya Chuaimaroeng who jumped 6.28m to claim silver medal. Yao Jiayu of China took bronze medal in 6.04m.
Abdulwahid Muntadher Falih of Iraq displayed brave efforts on his way to win Gold medal in spite of injured leg in men Pole vault final clearing a height of 5.25m after Thailand’s Amsang Patsapong cleared 5.20m a new personal best for young Thai. He won silver medal. Iraq’s another vaulter Alateej Ali Mohsin took bronze medal clearing 5.10m.
Earlier in the morning session, Wang Wenjing (王文静), 17 year old walker from China won her maiden International title with a win in the Women 10000m walk held at Thong Nhat Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Wang took 50:23.89s to complete the distance while her teammate Cun Hailu grabbed silver medal in 50:37.03s. India’s Ravina won bronze medal in 51:09.48s.
