17th Asian Junior Athletics Day two- Jantan Khairul Hafiz of Malaysia and Liu Qun of China emerged fastest Asian junior

Ho Chi Minh-  On the day two of the 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championship, Jantan Khairul Hafiz of Malaysia and Liu Qun of China emerged fastest Asian junior men and women runners respectively. Jantan won men’s 100m in a close finish with a personal best performance of 10.36s beating Japan’s Ippei Takeda (10.41s) and Mohammed Abdullah Abkar of Saudi Arabia (10.45s). 

In the women’s 100m final Liu Qun of China blast off from starting blocks to take early lead but Hong Kong’s Chan Pui Kei caught up with Liu in the last 20meters to take race into close finish almost edging out Liu however, Kei missed out on the gold medal in spite of new personal best performance. Liu won Gold medal in 11.84s while Pui settled on silver with 11.85s. Chattha on-Uma of Thailand grabbed bronze medal in 11.88s.

Jisna Mathew of India won women’s 400m final with a comfortable lead clocking 53.85s. Huang Guifen of China finished on the second place with 54.92s. Ishizuka Haruko and Iwata Yuna of Japan fought hard for the third place which was won by Haruko in 55.40s to Yuna’s 55.41s.

Mizuki Obuchi of Japan won men’s 400m with a performance 47.52s. Yaseen Taha Hussein of Iraq’s finished on the second place in 47.55s beating Souleyman Abdallah Djimat (47.83s) of Saudi Arabia to third place. 

Indian athletes dominated 1500m races. Lili Das was first to arrive at finish line with a timing of 4:29.50. Ueda Mina of Japan took 4:30.76s to finish on the second place. In rare photo finish, Harmilan Kaur Bains of India and DPR Korea’s Pak Jin Hyang awarded with Bronze medal for the identical performance of 4:33.02s. 

By the time men’s 1500m final started it was pouring monsoon rain. Defending champion Idriss Mousa Youssouf of Qatar was running with a plan to keep the title however to his shock India’s Ajay Kumar Saroj who was tailing Idriss closely surged ahead in the last defining 200m to win race in 3:57.55s leaving Idriss to settle on the silver medal with 3:58.28s. Assadizakalaki Ata of Iran won bronze medal in 4:03.37s.

Japan runners took top 2 positions in the final of the women 5000m run. Omari hana won the gold medal with a performance of 16:57.39s while Ogata Misaki took silve in 17:04.76s. Choe Hyon Ju of DPR Korea was third with 17:08.79s.

Earlier in the morning session, Zhang Yao of China surged ahead in the last lap to take over leader Morita Yasushi of Japan to claim gold medal in the men’s 10000m walk final with a performance of 44:33.00. Morita settled on the second place with 44:33.79s. Song Yun-Hwa of South Korea crossed finished line in complete exhaustion clocking 45:38.45s to claim bronze medal.

India’s Ashish Jakhar won men’s hammer throw final with a performance of 69.00m. AL-BAYATI HUSSEIN THAMER of Iraq finished on distinct second with a distance of 65.71m. TILLAVOLDIKHUJAEV JALOLKHON of Uzbekistan took third place with a throw of 63.77m.

YUKINAGA SHINICHI of Japan was a class apart in the men’s shot put final whose last attempt measured 18.41m, a new personal best and Gold medal for Japan. Iran’s LOTFOLLAHIDEHKHARGHANI AMIN and ROSTAMIMOGHADDAMLOTFABAD MAHDI claimed silver and bronze medal position with a throw of 17.57m and 17.53m respectively. 

Chai Yanbo of China could not control her tears of joy when she emerged winner in the women high jump final. Chai cleared 1.74m to win. On the other side DUBOVITSKAYA NADEZHDA of Kazakhstan experienced tears of disappointment of losing out on the gold medal even though she cleared same height of 1.74m but lost out on the count of failures. Nadezhda won silver medal. Tsai Ching Jung of Chinese Taipei finished on the third place clearing a height of 1.71m.

ZHONG PEIFENG of China won men’s long jump final which was disrupted due to heavy rain. Zhong jumped to 7.84m to win gold. Close fight was seen among Nomura Tomoya and Adachi Kazuma, both from Japan for the runner up place. Nomura prevail with 7.75m jump while Kazuma settled on the bronze medal with 7.73m.

Su Lingdon of China won women’s javelin throw final with a throw of 57.32m. Chang Chu of Chinese Taipei was second throwing 53.14m while Nazarova Varvara of Kazakhstan grabbed third place with a best throw of 52.76m. 

Yuma Maruyama of Japan won men’s decathlon title after two days of gruelling competition. Yuma scored total 6748 points. Wang Chen Yu of Chinese Taipei finished on the second place scoring total 6624 points. India’s Krishna Kumar won bronze medal with a performance of 6551 points
